Can some one exlpain to me the PUMA phenomenom?

I understand fashion can be odd. Trends come and go. People wear things that they look back on in years to come and laugh. I grew up in the 80's I know how ridculous fashion can be more than anyone. But I have an excuse: I was young and silly and it didn't really matter if I wore a red leather jacket like Michael Jackson or teased my hair like Madonna.

Here is the question I pose to all those people I was working with today (who aren't actually reading this!) Why would a grown man of 40+ years wear the ugliest PUMA shoes I've ever seen. Oh and it's not just one grown man, all 4 grown men that I worked with today were wearing PUMAs it seems every man in age group 37 to 49 wears these. Is it a status thing? because for sure it is not a comfort thing. It's one specific style that has velcro and weird rubber bottoms, they look like a cross between wrestling and motorcross shoes in the ugliest and oddest color combinations.

I have pulled some of the ones of seen worn lately so that maybe you can tell me what i'm missing in this latest fashion trend. Is this just a big hoax someone is playing? What attracts these men, seemingly normal, straight men to these shoes? Is this the new age of midlife crisis?

I like the shoes, but not on a 50 yr old!!

I have a pair of pumas, I got them in France about 5 years ago. They are black with silver wave (looking a little grey- gotta wash those shoes, hmmmmm). I think Hickteeth was there when I bought them!

I kinda ignore what's in or out sometimes--- my Pumas, I haven't stopped wearing every year.

But yeah, what's with grown men choosing funky sneakers? What do they wear with them?

i have no prob with pumas. not even on older men. i dunno, maybe i'm the weird one. i love the variety of colours. a little fun in the step, if you will. so many choices that i have as of yet been able to settle on a pair for myself.
what it is that i do not understand is this: older men wearing brightly coloured crocs. this is a truly horrifying phenomenon. girl in 30s sporting pink ones: ok. man in 30s sporting grey ones: no prob. woman in 60s wearing purple ones: alright if she has 6 cats in her apartment. man in 50s wearing black ones: still kinda acceptable. man in 60s wearing bright yellow ones?? umm, hell no. scary sight indeed.

Pumas are ok - but older men wearing them is a cry for someone to pull them aside and tell them they are not the younger generation anymore.

Crocs are fugly on anyone, anytime, in any colour or context. Sorry OOTG, you know I feel this way already, and I can't pretend!

I will admit the crocs do peak my curiosity! I'm not sure if it's enough to own a pair. But I do see the charm in them.

Now Uggs. Can we all agree?? - no charm, no fugly. Just plain ugly!!!

And double ugly when worn with a mini skirt in LA!
